Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor effectively created the modern celebrity fragrance category in 1987 with Passion, developed under licence with Elizabeth Arden (today part of Revlon). The house is built around the actress's famous love of jewellery, and its defining scent is White Diamonds (1991) — an aldehydic white floral by Carlos Benaim that became one of the best-selling women's fragrances of all time and was inducted into the Fragrance Foundation Hall of Fame in 2009. The 1993 Fragrant Jewels trio (Diamonds and Rubies, Diamonds and Emeralds and Diamonds and Sapphires, the first of which was composed by Sophia Grojsman) extended the gem theme, followed by Black Pearls, Gardenia and Violet Eyes, the last fragrance launched before Taylor's death in 2011. The White Diamonds line remains in production with regular flankers, and a share of proceeds supports The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
