Imaginary Authors

Niche · United States · est. 2012

Imaginary Authors is a Portland, Oregon niche house founded in 2012 by self-taught perfumer Josh Meyer, who began mixing fragrances in his basement in 2010 before launching the brand with creative director Ashod Simonian. Each scent is conceived as though it were a novel written by a fictional author, complete with invented plotlines, quotes, and characters that frame the olfactive concept. The house is known for unconventional, narrative-driven compositions built around unusual accords (burnt matches, tennis balls, asphalt, whiskey) rather than traditional perfumery conventions, and for bold, illustration-heavy packaging that reflects its literary conceit.
