Comme des Garçons

Niche · Japan · est. 1994

Comme des Garçons Parfums was launched in 1994 as a fragrance offshoot of Rei Kawakubo's avant-garde Japanese fashion house, founded in Tokyo in 1969. From the start the perfume line rejected conventional beauty and floral prettiness in favor of abstract, conceptual, often deliberately 'ugly' or industrial compositions built around incense, ink, metal, and synthetic accords. Directed by Kawakubo alongside collaborators like Christian Astuguevieille, the house has worked with noses including Mark Buxton, Bertrand Duchaufour, Antoine Lie, and Antoine Maisondieu to become one of niche perfumery's most influential experimental labels.
